(KP-21) Why you Should not Care About What People Would say
How a couple faced adversity | Evolution explains kindness even when it kills us | Mark Twain on Life and Death
Life Lesson
During my adolescence, whenever I went through a good creative phase and had the words flowing through me I used to write or record my thoughts but never shared. I kept it to myself.
I thought I could start a blog and share my writing now but what if due to my erratic mood or due to a bad phase I stopped writing, what would people say?!
I thought they would judge me as an inconsistent, never to be trusted, good-for-nothing, a wanna-be writer who will not accomplish anything in his life.
I am sure this thought of ‘what would people say’ keeps many people from doing things they love.
We are afraid of being judged. We are afraid of being rejected. We are afraid of being criticized.
But why?
Because we want to be liked by others. Rejection or criticism feels like a threat to our self-esteem.
But that shouldn’t be the case.
We should learn to embrace and accept ourselves as we are. We should be aware of our own worth. And we should know that people are going to say something no matter what we do or don’t do.
So, the life lesson I learned this week is that there is no point in thinking about what people might think or say. I should do what I want to irrespective of their judgment or opinion.
Positive Feel-Good Story
The Covid pandemic had turned many lives upside-down. We can not even imagine the hardships that so many people have gone through.
I am going to share the story of a couple who got homeless due to the pandemic. Now, in such a situation you can either mourn your fate or bounce back from adversity.
I wonder what I would have done had I been a sufferer.
Karan Kumar and Amrita, the couple, started a unique food business in their car, the only possession they had. They offered popular North Indian dishes such as rajma chawal and kadhi pakoda at affordable prices in Delhi.
They attracted a lot of attention on social media when a food blogger shared their story and it went viral.
There is no denying the fact that social media bloggers and influencers can change people’s lives if people resonate with their stories and make them go viral.
Now the couple earns a stable income of around Rs. 60k a month.
Their story is an inspiring example of how a couple stood by each other in the face of such adversity and showed resilience to come out of the unfortunate situation stronger, together.
Do you think their story should reach more people? Well, then go ahead and share this post.
Book/Podcast/Video Suggestion
This week’s suggestion is a video on kindness from an evolutionary perspective.
The Darwinian theory says that human beings do things that are beneficial or aid in the propagation of their genes (traits) to the next generation.
Some examples of selfish behaviors that aid in the propagation of genes include seeking out partners who possess desirable genetic traits, competing for resources and opportunities that increase one's chances of reproduction, and engaging in infidelity to increase the genetic diversity of one's offspring.
Additionally, humans may engage in behaviors such as lying, manipulation, and exploitation of others to gain advantages for themselves or their offspring.
Then how would you explain those acts of kindness when some people sacrifice their lives to save the lives of other people, who may or may not belong to their race or ethnic group?
Watch this video to find that out:
Quote/Poem
I have always wondered why we are afraid of death. Is it because we don’t know what is on the other side?
But a person who has lived his life totally, fully joyously, will he be afraid of death as well?
Well, here is what Mark Twain has to say about life and death:
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
